1 month on: a quick blood update

The paraproteins have jumped up a bit from 13.2 to 14.3. It’s disappointing but not surprising. Bit we also have a bit of good news: the haemaglobin is up a tad from 124 to 128. It’s still a good bit down from the 136 in June but it’s good to see the numbers go up, even cautiously, rather than always slipping down. We’re wondering if it’s because the Clarithromycin increased the levels of Ibrutinib in Husband’s system so it will be interesting to see if this welcome increase remains or is transient.

So why is my heart so heavy? I think that the hospital appointments affect me more than they do Husband. We never know what the results will be or what impact they’ll have. I felt physically sick today with the stress of the hospital visit.

This indolent cancer has waves of activity and inactivity. We need to do our best to snatch some life in between the medical appointments.

I always want to have a plan (usually with backups!). It makes me feel better, as if I can organise my way out of chaos. You can’t necessarily organise yourself out of chaos but you can organise your way through. Except that with cancer you really can’t. It will do what it will do.

Overall we just know that there are treatment decisions coming. And more blood tests. Always more blood tests.
