In the meantime: prostate investigations

posted in: Cancer 0

Husband’s PSA count was a bit high at 5.1 in April last year and went up to 6.7 in the following month so he was sent to see a urologist. It went down to 6 in the summer. The urologist was encouraging and not overly concerned but wanted an MRI scan to check for prostate cancer. Husband has no symptoms apart from having to get up to pee 2 or 3 times a night (4 or 5 for the first couple of weeks on Ibrutinib but fortunately that’s eased now). The scan revealed no signs of anything untoward but the urologist wanted to monitor Husband’s PSA levels regularly.

A week before the appointment booked for this month Husband received a letter from Urology telling him that his appointment had been cancelled (his last appointment was cancelled too) but we don’t know why. He hasn’t seen the urologist in 8 months and he was hoping to find some answers. Not happening anytime soon.

Another hospital letter arrives. Husband’s MRI has been brought forward from the autumn to… now. Next week. We have no idea why but it doesn’t feel great.

We have found out that his PSA was 9 at the most recent test but we don’t really know what that means, if anything.

So we wait… For the MRI… for the results… for the consultant’s explanation.
